Our Story
A brewery became a cultural space.
An idea became a community.
Hangar began in 2022 as a brewery inside an early 20th century stone warehouse building in the Walled City of Nicosia.
But the building was never the whole idea.
We saw the potential for something larger: a place where people could come together around art, music, ideas, food, beer and conversation; and where culture could become part of everyday life rather than something experienced only occasionally or in formal institutions.
This vision led us to transform Hangar into a culture space and community hub.
In many ways, we see it as a contemporary Yeşil Gazino 2.0, inspired by the role that places like Yeşil Gazino once played in Nicosia's social and cultural life, but reimagined for today's city and its communities.
Our ambition is to contribute to the revival of the cultural scene in the Walled City of Nicosia.
We bring together exhibitions, music, film, workshops, conversations, intellectual gatherings and brewing culture under one roof. We work with artists, makers, musicians, independent initiatives, local businesses and people who simply want to participate.
Because a cultural space is not created by a building alone.
It is created by the people who enter it, contribute to it, challenge it and return to it.
That is why Hangar is not a finished concept. It is an evolving platform, built through collaboration, experimentation and the people who choose to become part of it.
We are building a place for Nicosia to meet itself again.
And we want you to be part of it.
Our Mission
Our mission is to revive and strengthen the cultural life of the Walled City of Nicosia by creating a space where people, ideas and creative practices can meet. this will eventually contribute to the cultural scene in Nicosia at a greater scale.
Hangar provides a platform for artists, makers, musicians, cultural practitioners, independent initiatives and local communities to create, present, exchange and collaborate.
Through exhibitions, music, film, workshops, conversations, markets, gatherings and brewing culture, we create opportunities for people to experience culture not simply as an audience, but as participants.
We believe that a strong cultural scene is built through regular encounters, unexpected connections and spaces that remain open to new ideas.
Our role is to create the space, bring people together and make things happen.
Our Vision
We envision a Walled City of Nicosia where culture is part of everyday life, where people have places to meet, ideas have room to grow, and creative communities have the opportunity to shape the city around them.
We want Hangar to become a recognized cultural hub of Nicosia: a place where local and international artists, independent initiatives, communities and curious people come together to create, exchange and experience something new.
But our ambition goes beyond building a successful venue.
We want to contribute to a stronger cultural ecosystem in the city; one that is collaborative, diverse, independent and open to experimentation.
We believe the future of culture is not built by institutions alone. It is built by people who create spaces, start conversations, support one another and choose to participate.
We want Hangar to be one of those places.

We don't believe culture should be something people simply consume. We encourage people to contribute, collaborate, question, make, share and take part.
